- Profile
The Houston Museum of Natural Science is hosting a Life In Stone exhibition through March, featuring over seventy of Gerd Dreher’s masterpieces. This exhibit showcases marvelous carvings of animals from crystals of ruby, sapphire, citrine, amethyst, aquamarine, topaz, garnet, jasper, and agate.
The Tourmaline Treasures exhibit is now open, offering a unique experience to view multiple famous tourmalines in the same place. The exhibit was organized around, and temporarily featured, the “Rose of Itatiaia” from the Jonas Mines in Brazil. Other masterpieces from the most famous mines are still available to view for a limited time.
The Houston Museum of Natural Science offers the Morian Hall of Paleontology, Cullen Hall of Gems and Minerals, and Lester and Sue Smith Gem Vault as permanent exhibitions along with many more exhibits to explore.
Some recent reviews have included: “Fossils like you wouldn’t believe…”,”Extensive dinosaur collection” and Teacher/Student Discounts. Other reviewers warn of high priced parking and planning ahead for time as the museum could take a full day.
