    Hi this is Janis and Jeremy Smith operators of the Lucky Strike mines of which there is Lucky Strike mine and Valley View mine . We are a thunder egg mine that has been open to the public for over 55 years.The owner of the mine is my mother Cindy Kopcinski she runs a Museum and Rock shop located of Highway 26 in Mitchell Oregon.
    If you are wanting to come up and dig with us we would love to have you! Here is some info to help you out.
    When we open:) we open depending on weather Memorial day weekend so this year we might be open by May 26th we have a lot of snow! We close down the mine for the season around the first snow fall lets say September 30th:(
    Days and hour of operations:)
    Mondays 8 am to 5 pm
    Tuesday closed
    Wednesday closed
    Thursday 8 am to 5 pm
    Friday 8 am to 5 pm
    Saturday 8 am to 5 pm
    Sunday 8 am to 5 pm
    Things to know before you head out. The Lucky Strike mines are tucked away far up in the Ochoco Mountains. When I say tucked away it will take you over 1 hr to get to the nearest town and most of that time is on old dirt roads.We are about 5,500 ft high. 4 wheel drive would be best for these roads the main thing is clearance and there no places to turn around for trucks with long trailers (call us if you want more info on the roads).Do not travel these roads when it is storming trees can come down roads get wash away just not safe! It is good to have a spare tire there are sharp rocks out there. You should make sure that you have a good amount of gas the last gas is in Prineville. One other thing you should let some one know where your going and when you should be home.
    Things to bring:
    water
    food
    good pair of boots (will not let you dig in sandals)
    eye protection (your digging in hard rock)
    gloves
    sun block
    hat
    rock hammer
    warm clothes just in case (we are 5,500 ft high)
