“Gemstones: Natural, Synthetic or Imitation? What’s the Difference!”

The March 12 zoom lecture will feature Prof. Steve Okulewicz from Hofstra University’s Department of Geology and Environmental Sustainability, where he will discuss: “Gemstones: Natural, Synthetic or Imitation? What’s the Difference!” This presentation will cover the history of making synthetic gemstones and the various chemical process necessary to create them. In addition, imitation gemstones such as Moissanite, glass, rhinestones, cubic zirconia, lead crystal, and Swarovski Crystal will also be discussed. The presentation will begin at 7:45 pm.
