Professor Steve Okulewicz from the Geology and Environmental Sustainability Department at Hofstra University will do a presentation on “Precious Metals”. They are by definition, metals that are rare and have a high economic value due to their scarcity, use in industrial processes, jewelry, electronics, automobiles, and their role throughout ancient and modern history as a valuable commodity. The 4 most precious metals are gold, silver, platinum, and palladium. Wars were fought and wealth was determined by how much of these metals various civilizations had control over or access. Come see the minerals and ores that contain these precious metals.
